Jointers, also known as Surface Planers, are used to plane one surface of a solid wood component at a time. They are also used to straighten twisted or warped timber prior to passing the component through a thickness planer. They are often fitted with helical heads to reduce tear out as well as to diminish the noise. The longer the in-feed table is, up to the full length of the components being processed, the more effective the straightening can be.
